When performing Wudu, there are specific duas that are recommended, though not mandatory, to enhance the spiritual significance of the ablution process.
Dua Before Wudu
Before starting Wudu, it is recommended to say:
“بسم الله” (Bismillah)
- English: “In the name of Allah”
- This dua is a way of seeking Allah’s aid and acceptance for the action about to be performed.
Dua After Wudu
After completing Wudu, two duas are commonly recited:
First Dua
“اشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمد عبده ورسوله. اللهم أجعلني من التوابين واجعلني من المتطهرين”
- English: “I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. O Allah, make me among those who seek repentance and make me among those who purify themselves.”
- This dua affirms faith in Allah and the Prophet Muhammad and asks for repentance and purification.
Second Dua
“سبحانك اللهم وبحمدك، أشهد أن لا إله إلا انت، أستغفرك و أتوب إليك”
- English: “Glorified and praised are you, Allah. I bear witness there is no God except you. I ask for your forgiveness and repent to you.”
- This dua praises Allah, seeks forgiveness, and expresses repentance.
These duas emphasize the spiritual aspect of Wudu, seeking not only physical but also spiritual purification and closeness to Allah.
