Dua for Sick Person 🤲 “Healing Prayers: Duas for the Sick”

Here are some important duas that Muslims recite for a sick person, along with their translations and instructions on how to recite them:

Dua for Illness #1

أعوذ بعزة الله وقدرته من شر ما أجدو وأحاذر
A’udhu bi’izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa ‘uhadhiru
“I seek protection in the might of Allah and His power from the evil of what I am experiencing and of what I fear.”

• Recite “bismillah” three times, and then the entire supplication seven times. It is recommended to mention the name of the sick person if praying for someone else[2][4].

Dua for Illness #2

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءٌ لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمَا
Allahumma Rabban-naas adhhibil-ba’sa washfi Antash-Shaafi laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uk shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqamaa
“O Allah, the Lord of mankind, remove the difficulty and bring about healing as You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that will leave no ailment.”

• This dua is recommended to be recited while placing the right hand on the area of pain[2][4].

Dua for Illness #3

أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ
As’alu Allah al ‘azim rabbil ‘arshil azim an yashifika
“I ask Allah, the Mighty, the Lord of the Mighty Throne, to cure you.”

• Repeat this dua seven times, adjusting the pronouns as necessary depending on who is ill[2].

Reciting Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas

When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was ill, he would recite Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas, and then blow his breath over his body. When his illness was aggravated, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) would recite these suras and blow her breath over him, and have him rub his body with his own hand for its blessings[2][4].

اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَادِيِ إِلَى طَرِيقِ الْمِلَّةِ اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَبِجَاهِهِ اِصْرِفْ عَنِّي كُلَّ مَرَضٍ وَأَلَمٍ وَوَجَعٍ وَعِلَّةٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ
Allahumma Salli wa sallim ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin al-Hadi ila tariq al-milla. Allahumma salli wa sallim ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammad wa bi jahihi isrif ‘anni kulla maradin wa alamin wa waja’in wa ‘illa (then, mention the particular sickness), wa ‘ala alihi wa sahbih.
“Oh Allah bless and bestow peace upon Sayyidina Muhammed, the guide to the path of religion. Oh Allah bless and bestow peace upon Sayyidina Muhammed, and through his rank, remove from me every illness, pain, ailment, and disease, and upon his family and companions.”

• This dua is recited to seek healing and protection through the Prophet Muhammad’s intercession[2].
