Here are some duas that parents can recite for various purposes, including protection, guidance, and well-being of their children and family:
For Protection and Well-being
‘A’udhu bikalimat-illahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaqa
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of that which He has created.[1]
For the Safety and Security of the Home
Bismillaahil-lathee laa yadhurru ma’as-mihi shay’un fil-‘ardhi wa laa fis-samaa’i wa Huwas-Samee ‘ul- ‘Aleem
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.[1]
For Guidance and Protection of Children
Allahumma ihdi banii wa banati wa hifdh-hum wa ij’al-hum min al-saliheen
Oh Allah, guide my sons and daughters, protect them, and make them among the righteous.[4]
For General Well-being and Blessings
Allahumma ighfir li wa li-walidayya wa lil-mu’mineena wal-mu’minat
Oh Allah, forgive me, my parents, and all the believing men and women.[4]
To Avoid Making Dua Against Children
Parents should be mindful not to make dua against their children, even in moments of frustration. Instead, they can say:
Allah does not like the believers to pray against themselves, their children, or their wealth.[2]
By saying positive and protective duas, parents can seek Allah’s guidance, protection, and blessings for their children and family.
