Here are some important duas related to fasting, particularly during Ramadan:
Dua When Breaking the Fast
When breaking the fast, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say:
“Dhahaba al-zama wa’btalat al-‘uruq wa thabata al-ajr in sha Allah”
(Thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is certain if Allah wills)[1].
Alternative Dua When Breaking the Fast
Although this dua is considered weak (da’if), some people also recite:
“Allahumma laka sumtu wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu”
(O Allah, for You have I fasted and by Your provision I have broken my fast)[1].
Dua at the Beginning of the Fast
To indicate and affirm the intention of fasting, one can recite:
“Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan”
(I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan)[5].
Alternatively:
“Nawaiytu sawma ghadin ‘an adai farzi shahri ramadan”
(I intend to fast tomorrow to fulfill my obligation in the month of Ramadan)[5].
Importance of Dua During Fasting
It is emphasized that making dua during fasting is highly encouraged, as the Prophet said that the duas of a fasting person when breaking the fast are not refused[4].
